Rev. Phil Lund’s sermon wove together elements of the Tao Te Ching and Bonnie Ware’s work with palliative care patients at our second combined service on April 11. Chapter 40 of the Tao says “The myriad things of the world are born of being. Being is born of non-being.” As we all move toward non-being it behooves us to be aware of the most common 5 regrets of the dying as reported by Ware:
- I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
- I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
- I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
- I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
- I wish that I had let myself be happier.
