Our first live gathering since lockdown! Everyone is asked to bring a flower (or more, if you’d like) for sharing with another participant. You are advised to bring a hat in the event of bright sunshine or light rain. Sunscreen and insect repellent are also suggested, and you might want to bring water or something to sip. A few snacks will be provided If a heavy or extended rain is expected, and a reverting to Zoom seems warranted, everyone will be notified on Saturday or early Sunday morning.
Directions to Wildwood Road Property
These directions are fairly straightforward, but it can be a bit tricky to turn at the right places. For most of us the directions from Petoskey are given. For those living east of Emmet County, directions from Wolverine are offered. Depending on where you live, shortcuts are possible; but please do not attempt them unless you really know the rural roads or have a detailed roadmap of the region.
Directions from Petoskey: If you know Petoskey at all, you’ll know where Mitchell St is. It’s one of the main streets in downtown Petoskey, which runs Past Grain Train and the Petoskey Library. You’ll follow Mitchell quite a ways east out of Petoskey, although it bends and curves in places. About 5 miles along Mitchell goes up and down a couple of hills, then runs down the highest of these hills to Minnehaha Creek. About 2 miles after you cross the creek, Mitchell follows a few fairly sharp curves. As you ease out of the turns you’ll see a tall, truck-size garage, virtually next to Wildwood Rd (left turn only). Follow Wildwood as it rises about ½ mile. A UUCOP sign and tom beukema’s blue Subaru Forester will mark the spot on the left side. There should be ample parking along the oval drive on the property.
Directions from Wolverine. Look for W. Main in the (small central part of the town. Note that the I-75 exit to the town is E. Main, which is not directly connected to W Main. Right after it crosses the Sturgeon River E Main splits into 2 branches. If you take the right branch, turn left unto Birch, the main road through town, the turn right at W Main if you take the left branch, of course you turn right at Birch. Follow W Main perhaps 10 miles. Right at the Emmet County line the road bends sharply to the right, then sharply left. Shortly after those curves take the 1st right, Twildo Road. Follow Twildo to Wildwood, then turn left. Shortly you will see tom beukema’s blue Subaru Forester and a UUCOP sign on the right-hand side.
For all: Should difficulties arise during your journey, please note your location as well as you can, then call tom on his cellphone, 231.340.0570.
