For our next meeting at 1:30 p,m, Sunday, December 15 we selected A Cloud Over the Land: The Tragic Story of the Burt Lake Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians by Richard A. Wiles with Nature’s Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard by Douglas W. Tallamy a very close 2nd.
Perhaps coincidentally, A Cloud Over the Land was by far the shortest of the 6 nominations. It concerns an event in Emmet (& Cheboygan?) counties, and it was written by a resident in our neck of the woods. Perhaps you’ve met him. I’m informing McLean & Aiken re our selection today.
Our next meeting will be Zoom only. While i had projected that all our meetings will be Zoom-only until April, we discussed the option of meeting in members’ homes. Fortunately Marla Houghteling, our Book Group historian recalled both the nature of these meetings in members’ homes & the consistently high attendance at them. We agreed that we’ll always meet in someone’s home if so invited. At least a few of us have indicated an interest in doing this. How about you?
Nominations for our subsequent meeting – probably January 19, 2025 – are now open! Just email (tforb@core.com) your book suggestions, including title, author(s)’ names, publication date, # of pp., and a brief (up to 100 or so words) summary of the work’s content.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 12/15, which also happens to be the last shopping day before Beethoven’s birthday!
